Reading Ambassadors wrap up with joyful graduation celebration

The Reading Ambassadors held their fourth and final session of the series with a festive, heart-filled graduation celebration that beautifully embodied the mission of WEC and the FACES team: fostering community connection and creating inclusive, supportive environments where families can grow through the joy of reading. This final gathering was all about honoring the journey that young scholars and loved ones have taken together, through stories, crafts, and shared experiences.

The excitement in the room was contagious as everyone gathered once again to read and celebrate. The evening began with a meal enjoyed in each other’s company. The delightful storytelling of Happy Graduation, acted out once more alongside expressive puppets, brought smiles and laughter to everyone’s faces. Silly characters and a determined dog amused the kids as they learned about graduation and creative problem solving. This captivating reading session was followed by a craft activity, where the young scholars created their very own graduation hats. Supplied with vibrant materials and support from their parents, each child brought their vision to life. The room buzzed with creativity, pride, and accomplishment as construction paper turned into caps and tassels.

One touching moment of the evening was felt when a young participant was able to engage deeply with the storytelling atmosphere thanks to the thoughtful support of a fellow learner who used sign language to share the narrative with him. Her gesture empowered him to contribute alongside the group with confidence and joy. This exemplifies the inclusivity and teamwork that are at the heart of what the Reading Ambassadors program aims to provide.

The room was filled with laughter, chatter, the scratching [RP1] of coloring and the clicking of cameras capturing graduates in their paper caps as the event drew to a close. Every child felt appreciated, seen, and celebrated for their unique presence and contributions. A parent in attendance with her two daughters expressed how meaningful it was to participate with her children in this group. Her enthusiasm reflected the joy many expressed throughout the series: a sense of belonging, shared learning, and time well spent with their children in a local, accessible, and welcoming space. These moments of joy and togetherness are the heart of what we strive to foster through our work.

The Reading Ambassadors initiative is a powerful example of the potential families have when they come together around books, when children see themselves reflected in stories, and when communities are met with growth and connection. We are honored to have shared these moments with so many wonderful Worcester families and look forward to continuing this important work in new ways.
